About

We started the Belfast4Haiti campaign to give local people the chance to chance to show their support for the people of Haiti.
We began with plans for one event – the Belfast4Haiti gig on Sunday, 31st January. Our campaign’s now snowballed and a host of events are taking place around the city. There’s a Fun Run, also on Sunday, 31st January, and a number of other events, including rock, folk and church concerts.
We’ve been inundated with offers of help from musicians, DJs and other individuals – so much so, that we now have 50 acts at our gig on Sunday, 31st January. And we’ve been able to harness the power of Facebook and Twitter, with more than 5,000 members on Facebook.
This hasn’t surprised us – a similar Belfast-based fundraising effort for the survivors of the Asian Tsunami in 2004 raised more than £18,000. We hope to raise even more this time.
And we’re in this for the long-haul. It took four years to rebuild the areas devastated by the Asian Tsunami and it’s likely to take even longer to reconstruct and regenerate Haiti. Belfast4Haiti intends to facilitate fundraising events for the foreseeable future – continuing donations will be vital if Haiti’s earthquake survivors are to be given a proper chance to rebuild their shattered lives.
All money raised through Belfast4Haiti will go direct to the Disasters Emergency Committee, the umbrella group of 13 UK aid agencies working together to bring relief to Haiti. You can help their efforts by donating now. You can read more about the earthquake and the relief efforts here.
To keep up to date with the progress of the event, to offer help or assistance follow us on Twitter or on Facebook.
